Dr Green’s Top 5 Home Remedies Using Vinegar!

For everyone who knows me personally (and has rummaged through my kitchen pantry for whatever reason), knows that I always keep a big jug of white vinegar and a smaller bottle of apple cider vinegar hanging around at all times. I LOVE me some vinegar because it’s eco-friendly and versatile. There are tons of uses for both forms of vinegar, but I’ve decided to share my Top 5 Home Remedies (in no particular order) with you.

Please note that these are ‘folk’ remedies, and are not proven by any scientific measures; but try them out and you can decide for yourself if they work or not.

1) Window cleaner: To make streak-free window cleaner using vinegar; simply combine 2 cups of water, 1/4 cup of white distilled vinegar, and up to 1/2 teaspoon of clear, dye-free liquid soap into a spray bottle. Spray and wipe. That’s it!

2) Soothe an upset belly: Fill a coffee mug about halfway with apple cider vinegar. Next, boil some water and fill the rest of the mug with the hot water. Add a few teaspoons of honey and you got yourself a soothing apple cider tea-type drink to soothe your upset stomach.

3) Carpet spotter (my personal favorite): Mix a half and half mix of water and white vinegar into a spray bottle. When you catch a spot on your carpet fairly early on; simply spray the mix directly on the stain and blot up with a white towel. DO NOT RUB! Watch it disappear! (For tougher stains, of course call a professional carpet cleaner)

4) Stop sugar cravings –Simply add some apple cider vinegar to water (2 teaspoons vinegar to 6 ounces of water) and drink to reduce sugar cravings. I’m not sure why or how this works, but try it and see for yourself…

5) Loosen dried on food in your microwave: Take a microwave safe bowl and boil ½ cup vinegar with ½ cup water in it. After it boils in for a short amount of time, stop the timer and simply wipe the gunk off the inside of the microwave. Easy as pie.

You know what; I’ll add one more to my list since I just started using this little gem of a trick about 2 months ago…

6) If you have some really smelly clothes (I’m a carpet cleaner, so yes mine get pretty ripe); pour about a ½ of a cup of white vinegar to your washing machine water right after you add your regular detergent. It seems like my whites appear a bit brighter and my clothes come out nice and FRESH! Hey; it works for me!

There are tons more home remedies that use vinegar as the main ingredient, but those are a few of my favorites. Tune back again to see my next 5 favorite uses for vinegar coming soon!
